Tripura has placed a strong focus on tribal welfare in its latest budget, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday. The BJP-led government has ensured that a significant portion of funds go toward the development and upliftment of tribal communities. Speaking at a press conference, he emphasized the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities in tribal areas.
The chief minister highlighted that this budget allocation reflects the state’s dedication to inclusive growth. He pointed out that previous governments had overlooked the needs of indigenous communities, leaving many without access to basic amenities. The current administration, he said, is working to reverse that trend by directing financial resources toward programs that empower tribal populations.
Health initiatives received a significant boost, with new schemes aimed at enhancing medical facilities in remote regions. The government has prioritized the construction of new hospitals and primary health centers in tribal-dominated districts. Additionally, mobile medical units have been introduced to provide healthcare services to those living in far-flung villages. CM Saha stated that improving healthcare access for tribal communities remains one of the administration’s top priorities.
Education also plays a central role in the budget. The government has sanctioned funds to upgrade existing tribal schools and build new educational institutions. Scholarships for tribal students have been expanded, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their pursuit of higher education. Apart from health and education, the government has focused on economic empowerment. The budget includes provisions for skill development programs and self-employment initiatives tailored for tribal communities. CM Saha said that promoting entrepreneurship among indigenous populations will lead to long-term economic stability. Infrastructure development in tribal areas has also received a major push. The state has earmarked funds for constructing better roads, bridges, and drinking water facilities in tribal settlements. He assured that the government remains committed to ensuring that every village benefits from modern infrastructure.
Cultural preservation remains another key aspect of the budget. The government has announced initiatives to promote indigenous art, music, and traditions. Plans are in place to build cultural centers where tribal heritage can be showcased and preserved. Special events celebrating tribal festivals and crafts will be organized to encourage wider appreciation of the region’s rich cultural history.
The opposition, however, has questioned the intent behind these allocations. Some leaders argued that while the budget promises substantial funds for tribal welfare, the government must ensure proper implementation and transparency. In addition to financial assistance, the government is also addressing land rights issues affecting tribal communities. Tribal leaders and community representatives welcomed the budget allocation but urged the government to ensure sustained efforts in its implementation. Many emphasized the need for continued dialogue between policymakers and tribal groups to address pressing concerns.
