The ruling BJP will contest the upcoming Village Committee elections in Tripura alongside alliance partners Tipra Motha and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on September 5. Saha made the announcement after attending a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.

BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT Join Hands
Manik Saha said the BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT have agreed to contest the upcoming Village Committee elections together.
Speaking to reporters at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala, Saha said the alliance would remain intact during the polls.
The decision follows a meeting in New Delhi between senior leaders of the three parties and BJP Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra.
Amit Shah Holds Meeting With Tripura Leaders
The meeting took place at Amit Shah’s residence in New Delhi and lasted around 90 minutes.
Shah, Saha, Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma and Sambit Patra attended the discussions.
According to Saha, the meeting focused on the Village Committee elections and the implementation of the Tripura Accord. He described the discussions as “very cordial and positive.”
Seat-Sharing Formula to Be Finalised
The alliance partners will now begin detailed discussions on seat sharing.
The BJP and Tipra Motha have formed separate teams to prepare the seat-sharing arrangement. Saha also said the alliance has held discussions with IPFT minister Shukla Charan Noatia.
Representatives from Tipra Motha are expected to visit Tripura soon to finalise the formula.
Tripura Accord Demands After Elections
Saha also said the government plans to address almost all demands under the Tripura Accord after completing the Village Committee election process.
The election process could begin next month, according to the Chief Minister. Therefore, the government expects to take up the Accord-related issues after the polls conclude.
The Tripura Accord remains an important political issue in the state, particularly concerning the rights and interests of indigenous communities.
Saha Calls for Inclusive Governance
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of an inclusive approach while making decisions.
He said the government would respect all communities and ensure that no section of society feels excluded or hurt by its decisions.
Saha also reiterated the government’s commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”
