Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday, April 22, inaugurated a newly constructed Higher Secondary School building in Amtali, reinforcing the state government’s continued investment in improving educational infrastructure. The ceremony drew participation from students, teachers, and local residents who welcomed the state’s efforts to enhance access to quality education.
The state government has prioritized education as a key area of development, and the Chief Minister’s presence at the launch highlighted the administration’s commitment to nurturing young minds. Officials from the education department confirmed that this school is one of six new educational facilities scheduled for completion and handover this month across Tripura. These include both Higher Secondary and primary-level schools strategically located in rural and semi-urban areas.
Manik Saha addressed the gathering after unveiling the new school building and emphasized that education is the strongest weapon for social transformation. He stated that infrastructure development alone cannot uplift students unless teachers, parents, and the community work together. He encouraged students to make the most of the new learning environment, promising that the government would continue to support their aspirations.
The Chief Minister highlighted that these school buildings are designed with modern amenities. Classrooms feature smart boards and upgraded furniture to support digital learning. Special provisions for science laboratories and computer labs are also in place. The government has ensured that these buildings are equipped with clean drinking water, sanitation facilities for boys and girls, and provisions for children with special needs.
Tripura’s Public Works Department collaborated with the education department to ensure timely execution of the school infrastructure projects. Officials said that the buildings meet safety and environmental standards, with eco-friendly designs and earthquake-resistant structures. They added that each school was selected based on need, enrolment numbers, and infrastructure gaps identified during past surveys.
Teachers from the newly inaugurated Amtali school expressed joy and relief. Many said that the improved classrooms would not only motivate students but also improve attendance and academic performance. They praised the state for treating education with the seriousness it deserves. Local MLA Sushanta Chowdhury, who was also present, congratulated the community and urged students to dream big while remaining grounded in their values.
Parents who attended the event shared similar sentiments. They recalled the poor conditions in which their children previously studied and expressed hope that the new facilities would encourage them to stay in school longer. Several mentioned that this move could reduce dropout rates and increase the number of students pursuing higher education.
The Chief Minister also announced that the government has plans to recruit additional teachers and staff to match the growing number of students. He said that a balanced focus on infrastructure, faculty, and curriculum will create a robust education ecosystem in Tripura. He added that investment in human capital through education will yield long-term benefits for the state.
This development comes at a time when Tripura is pushing for digital integration in classrooms. Manik Saha said that efforts are underway to connect more rural schools with high-speed internet and to provide digital tablets to students from underprivileged backgrounds. These moves are part of a larger strategy to reduce the urban-rural education divide and promote inclusive growth.
Education officials noted that the inauguration in Amtali marks a milestone in Tripura’s education reform. They confirmed that work on the remaining schools is progressing swiftly, and all six facilities will be operational by the end of May. They added that regular monitoring and community feedback will help improve the quality of teaching and infrastructure.
Manik Saha concluded his address by urging all stakeholders to treat schools as temples of learning. He called upon students to take pride in their schools and participate in maintaining them. He assured the public that the government would not compromise on the right to quality education and promised more such projects in the near future.
