Tripura West Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has called for stronger BSNL network coverage and improved customer services across Tripura. Biplab Deb Calls for Stronger BSNL Network
During the TAC meeting, Biplab Kumar Deb called for improvements in BSNL’s overall network and customer services.
He said the committee would review issues raised during its previous meeting. Officials would also examine progress in infrastructure development, employment, customer relations and network expansion.
According to Deb, the meeting would identify existing problems and discuss possible solutions.

Deb specifically highlighted network problems in Tripura’s border regions. He said several areas face weak domestic mobile coverage.
He stated that users can sometimes lose connectivity for stretches of up to 10 kilometres in border areas. Therefore, he called for additional telecom towers along the international border.
Better tower coverage, he said, could improve communication for residents and strengthen connectivity in remote locations.
MP Raises Security Concerns
Deb also linked stronger domestic telecom coverage with border security. He said Indian network infrastructure should provide reliable communication in areas where foreign network signals can reach.
He claimed that Bangladeshi mobile signals can extend several kilometres into Tripura. According to him, this situation creates security concerns when Indian networks remain unavailable.
He also said stronger Indian network coverage could help security agencies access call records when required during investigations.
Focus on 5G Services in Tripura
Technology upgrades also featured prominently in the discussion. Deb said BSNL has expanded its 4G network across the state.
However, he questioned why 5G services have not gained sufficient momentum in Tripura. He said 4G remains the dominant service and asked officials to explain the steps being taken to expand 5G.
The TAC meeting is expected to provide an opportunity to assess the current status of 5G deployment and identify areas requiring further attention.
Previous Connectivity Restrictions
Deb also referred to restrictions that had previously affected international roaming services in parts of the Northeast.
He said authorities had introduced such restrictions in the past because of insurgency-related concerns. According to him, the restrictions were later removed, although implementing the changes took some time.
He said the issue has now been resolved.

The meeting brought together elected representatives and senior telecom officials to review BSNL-related issues in Tripura.
Deb said the committee would assess which concerns raised earlier have received attention. The meeting would also help identify matters that may require further action from the Government of India.
