Tripura Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, has approved a series of welfare measures to support economically weaker and vulnerable sections of society. The decisions were announced by Transport Minister and Cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury during a press conference.

The Cabinet approved a major hike in the monthly pension for persons with intellectual disabilities. Under the Chief Minister Social Pension Scheme, individuals with 60 percent or more disability will now receive ₹5,000 per month. Earlier, the pension amount was ₹2,000. The minister said the revised pension will provide greater relief to families and beneficiaries across the state.

The Cabinet also cleared a new scheme to provide marriage assistance for daughters of Antyodaya families. Girls aged 18 years and above from eligible households will receive a one-time grant of ₹50,000 at the time of marriage. The proposal was earlier mentioned in the state budget and has now received final approval.

In another decision, the government revised financial aid under the Mukhyamantri Antyodaya Shraddhanjali Yojana. Families belonging to Antyodaya households will now receive ₹10,000 as assistance for funeral expenses. The earlier assistance was limited to ₹2,000. According to the Cabinet, the revised support is intended to ease financial pressure on families during last rites.

The Cabinet further approved recruitment to four vacant posts of Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) under the Social Welfare and Social Education Department. The department is the nodal body responsible for implementing social welfare schemes and initiatives across the state.

With these approvals, the state government has introduced new support measures in three key areas—financial aid for persons with disabilities, marriage assistance for girls from poor families, and enhanced funeral assistance for Antyodaya households. Recruitment of CDPOs is also expected to strengthen the implementation process for these programs.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the Cabinet decisions reflect the government’s commitment to provide targeted assistance to weaker sections of society.
