Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has strongly condemned the alleged attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, held at Taksapara in the Asharambari constituency on Sunday.

In a statement issued shortly after the incident, the Chief Minister alleged that members of the TIPRA Motha party were behind the violent disruption. Dr. Saha described the act as both “violent” and “undemocratic,” calling it a shameful attempt to silence democratic participation.

“Strongly condemn the violent & undemocratic attack by TIPRA Motha party workers during Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji’s Mann Ki Baat programme at Asharambari,” the Chief Minister wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He further informed that several BJP karyakartas were injured in the incident, with three of them currently undergoing treatment at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala.

Dr. Saha visited the injured party workers at the hospital and assured them of the government’s full support. He directed hospital authorities to provide the best possible medical care and instructed the police to take strict and immediate action against those responsible for the assault.

“I visited the hospital, instructed doctors to provide the best care & directed police to take strict action against the perpetrators. Such disgraceful acts won’t be tolerated,” the Chief Minister asserted.

The attack has sparked political tension in the state, especially in the tribal-majority areas where TIPRA Motha holds significant influence. While the BJP has blamed TIPRA Motha for the violence, the party has yet to officially respond to the allegations.

Local sources report that the clash occurred when BJP supporters had gathered to listen to the live broadcast of Mann Ki Baat in the Taksapara area. Eyewitnesses claimed that a group of alleged TIPRA Motha workers arrived at the scene and began attacking BJP activists without provocation.

Security has since been tightened in the area, and additional police forces have been deployed to maintain law and order. An FIR has reportedly been registered, and an investigation is underway.

The incident comes at a sensitive time, as both parties gear up for upcoming local body polls, and the political atmosphere in tribal regions of Tripura remains volatile.

State BJP leaders have also condemned the attack and demanded that TIPRA Motha leadership take accountability for their workers’ actions.

The Tripura government has assured that law and order will be upheld and that those responsible will face consequences under the law.
