Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has said the state is on the verge of a major transformation as multiple infrastructure projects move forward. Addressing reporters at his residence, the CM outlined a series of ongoing developments aimed at reshaping Tripura’s urban and economic landscape.
One of the key projects under construction is a 16-storey building at Gurkhabasti in Agartala, which will house almost all government departments under one roof. Designed in a pendulum-style structure, the building will be earthquake-resistant and serve as a central hub for administration.
In addition, the foundation stone for the Unity Mall has been laid at Amtali in West Tripura, which is expected to boost trade, commerce, and cultural exchange. To tackle the city’s growing traffic issues, a multi-level car parking facility is also coming up in the heart of Agartala.
The CM also announced that the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Group to convert the historic Pushpabant Palace into a five-star hotel. Saha said the project will not only enhance tourism but also transform the cultural and economic landscape of Tripura.
Highlighting Tripura’s economic progress, the Chief Minister said the state currently ranks second among northeastern states in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and per capita income. He added that significant investments in infrastructure will further accelerate growth and development.
The state budget has also seen a substantial rise, moving from Rs 27,000 crore in 2024–25 to Rs 32,000 crore in 2025–26. The CM described the net increase of Rs 4,000 crore as a remarkable achievement for a small state like Tripura.
On employment, Saha pointed out that the government has filled more than 20,000 vacant posts in various departments since 2018, with recruitment drives still ongoing. The state is also supporting thousands of people engaged in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The Chief Minister emphasized that employee welfare remains a priority. He noted that when he assumed office in 2022, state government employees were receiving only 3% Dearness Allowance (DA). At present, the DA has increased to 29%, significantly reducing the gap with central government employees. Saha added that releasing DA regularly requires major financial commitment, as a 1% increase alone costs the state Rs 100 crore, covering around 1.03 lakh employees and 83,000 pensioners.
