Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday announced that government officers will not be allowed to take leave during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities unless it is absolutely urgent. The directive aims to ensure that all departments remain fully operational during the state’s major cultural celebrations.
The Chief Minister made the announcement while addressing a preparatory meeting at Muktadhara Auditorium, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department in connection with the upcoming Mayer Gomon and Sharad Samman programs.
Dr. Saha informed that this year’s Mayer Gomon will be held on October 4, 2025, and appealed to everyone to work together to make the event a grand success, which he said would also help boost tourism in Tripura.
Reflecting on last year’s experience, he said, “We must identify gaps from previous celebrations and rectify them. With idols arriving from various locations, some issues arose due to numbering. I urge the police administration to coordinate closely with clubs and ensure proper arrangements. Traffic and crowd management must be handled efficiently.”
On infrastructure preparations, the Chief Minister noted that the government is working to complete ongoing drainage projects before the festival and has instructed the Public Works Department to repair potholes on major roads at the earliest.
Dr. Saha emphasized safety and compliance during the festivities, directing that idol heights, decorations, and lighting gates must follow prescribed rules. He also instructed the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited to ensure proper use of electric meters and prevent unsafe hook lines to avoid accidents. Fire and Emergency Services, along with the Health Department, have been asked to keep ambulances and medical teams on standby at strategic locations. Women police personnel will be deployed during Mayer Gomon to enhance security. Clubs have been urged to control sound levels, particularly near hospitals.
Regarding subscription (chanda) collection, the Chief Minister warned against forceful practices and stated that the police and administration have been instructed to prevent any coercion. He noted that the situation has improved, with people now cooperating voluntarily.
Dr. Saha also expressed his vision to bring national recognition to the festival, stating, “I want the whole nation to know about Tripura’s Mayer Gomon.”
The meeting was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, ICA Secretary Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, and senior officials from various departments.
