Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha visited New Delhi on April 18, 2025, where he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda. During his meetings, Dr. Saha raised crucial issues concerning the state’s ongoing development and the urgent need to strengthen its health infrastructure. He highlighted Tripura’s efforts toward improving public services and requested enhanced support from the Centre to accelerate progress.
Dr. Saha began his day with a detailed discussion with Amit Shah. He briefed the Union Home Minister about the implementation of central schemes in Tripura and emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and growth. The Chief Minister underlined the importance of a collaborative approach to development, especially in a border state like Tripura, which plays a significant role in India’s Act East policy. Amit Shah responded positively and assured Dr. Saha of the Centre’s continued cooperation in all spheres, particularly in security and infrastructure development.
Later, Dr. Saha met with Union Health Minister JP Nadda to address concerns regarding Tripura’s health sector. He explained that while the state has made remarkable progress in public health indicators, challenges persist, especially in rural and remote areas. Dr. Saha expressed concern over the need for improved infrastructure, trained personnel, and modern equipment in government hospitals. He requested financial assistance and technical expertise from the Centre to build new facilities, upgrade existing ones, and strengthen outreach through mobile healthcare units.
The Chief Minister also informed Nadda about Tripura’s strides in maternal and child health, vaccination campaigns, and disease control programs. He stressed that the state’s vision for a healthier population can only materialize with the Centre’s strategic backing. Nadda appreciated Tripura’s initiatives and assured Dr. Saha that the Union Health Ministry would extend all necessary support. He directed senior officials to coordinate closely with their counterparts in Tripura to expedite pending proposals and streamline fund disbursals.
Dr. Saha’s visit also included a broader dialogue on boosting Tripura’s connectivity, tourism, and digital governance. He informed central leaders about key projects under implementation, such as the Agartala Smart City Mission and rural road expansion schemes. He pointed out that the state has been successful in timely execution of several flagship programs and urged the central government to recognize this performance with additional funding.
The Chief Minister reiterated Tripura’s strategic geographic importance, especially in terms of trade with neighboring countries like Bangladesh. He advocated for more international border markets and logistics hubs to promote cross-border commerce. He also requested assistance for skill development and employment generation schemes targeting youth and tribal communities.
Dr. Saha’s discussions received a warm response from both Amit Shah and JP Nadda, who lauded his leadership and the state’s steady development trajectory. They assured the Chief Minister of the Centre’s unwavering commitment to Tripura’s holistic progress. Shah emphasized that the Modi government is determined to uplift all northeastern states and will prioritize projects that directly benefit citizens.
After his meetings, Dr. Saha expressed satisfaction with the outcomes and reaffirmed his government’s dedication to inclusive development. He said that Tripura is on the path to transformation and that his team would continue to engage with the Centre to unlock new opportunities for growth. He also added that the state’s focus would remain on healthcare, education, connectivity, and youth empowerment.
Dr. Saha concluded his visit with optimism, stating that the dialogue with central ministers would translate into concrete support in the coming months. He promised to monitor the follow-up on all key issues raised and ensure that every benefit reaches the grassroots.
