Chief Electoral officer Kiran Gitte requested by the Tripura CPM party to seek clarification from the CM Dr. Manik Saha of violating the model of code conduct on 28 May 2022.
Kiran Gitte received a letter on Saturday from the Tripura CPM secretary Jitendra Chaudhary saying that the Chief Minister has programs scheduled at the constituencies of Krishnapur of Jubranagar and Bamancherra of Surma part of his poll campaign with four other BJP leaders, Tinku Roy, Balai Goswami, Dilip Debroy and Kamal Mallik.
“The program also mentions that the chief minister will conduct the entire tour by helicopter and hold meetings with the district administration of North Tripura and Dhalai district where the model code of conduct has been enforced following declaration of dates for by-election in two assembly constituencies in these districts on May 26,” Chaudhury wrote on letter.
In support of his statement, the CPM leader claimed that according to Para (a) and (b) of rule 1 section VII under ‘Party in Power’ of the model conduct, domination of an official tour and poll campaign by ministers and use of any government vehicle to serve the interest of the ruling party is prohibited. He further added that the CM meeting the magistrates of North Tripura and Dhalai district who are now district election officers can confuse the model of conduct is in force in those districts.
“We did not expect this violation of the MCC by the ruling party and that it would be done by the chief minister himself. I request you to take up the matter with the CM and seek clarification and take proper steps against such violation of the code,” Chaudhary wrote.
In response to the letter, the BJP spokesperson Nabendru Bhattacharya denied having any such information and assured to clarify the accusation to the poll watchdog if the Election Commission seeks their clarification.
