In a first for the northeastern state of Tripura, the Election Commission has appointed a counting observer for each of the 60 assembly constituencies to ensure the counting of votes in a free and fair manner. According to Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura, S. Bandopadhyay, the 60 counting observers are expected to arrive in Tripura by February 28. This move is a significant step towards ensuring a transparent and fair counting process in the state.

The Chief Secretary J K Sinha, CEO Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarrao, and DGP Amitabh Ranjan have already toured all the eight districts and held meetings with the district magistrates and superintendents of police to review the overall security scenario of all the districts and take stock of the security arrangements.

The counting process will be held in 21 counting halls amidst tight security measures. The appointment of counting observers for each assembly segment is a crucial step towards ensuring that the process is conducted smoothly and without any glitches. The observers will be tasked with ensuring that all rules and regulations are followed during the counting of votes.

The move has been welcomed by political parties and citizens alike, as it will bring a greater degree of transparency and accountability to the election process. The Election Commission has urged political parties and candidates to cooperate with the counting observers and follow the guidelines set by the commission.

As the people of Tripura eagerly await the results of the assembly elections, the appointment of counting observers is expected to bring greater trust and confidence in the democratic process. The Election Commission’s efforts towards ensuring free and fair elections are truly commendable and will go a long way in upholding the principles of democracy.
