In a recent meeting held at NITI Ayog in Delhi, Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, outlined a comprehensive blueprint for the state’s development. The ambitious plan aims to propel Tripura towards achieving the status of a fully developed state by the year 2047. Attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, central secretaries, and chief secretaries of various states, the meeting served as a platform to discuss and strategize Tripura’s growth trajectory.
Dr. Manik Saha provided an in-depth briefing on the ongoing development initiatives undertaken by the state government. Notably, he emphasized the pivotal role played by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, which is being subsidized by the state government. The support extended to the MSME sector has facilitated the growth of bilateral trade and commerce with neighboring Bangladesh. Additionally, the chief minister highlighted the positive impact of border trade with Bangladesh on Tripura’s economy. This mutually beneficial trade relationship has contributed to the overall economic development of the state.
Furthermore, the chief minister unveiled plans to bolster the ‘Agar’ industry in Tripura. By establishing ‘Agar’ clusters in the northern district, Tripura aims to stimulate growth in this sector. Dr. Manik Saha acknowledged the central government’s sponsorship of infrastructure development in the state, which has acted as a catalyst for economic growth. Leveraging the abundant availability of bamboo in Tripura, the state government is keen on attracting bamboo-based industries. To facilitate this, an Agar Policy has been formulated, with a target of attracting industrial investments worth at least Rs 2,000 crores by the end of 2025.
The chief minister expressed optimism that the burgeoning industrialization in Tripura would generate investments and employment opportunities for the local population. The state government’s commitment to the “vocal for local” policy, as advocated by the honorable prime minister, has further fostered local entrepreneurship, contributing to increased employment prospects within the state.
Dr. Manik Saha also underscored the importance of the tourism sector as a revenue multiplier for Tripura. The state government has devised a comprehensive plan for the development and upgradation of tourist spots, prioritizing its implementation. These initiatives aim to enhance tourism infrastructure, thereby attracting more visitors and bolstering Tripura’s economy.
