100 Per Cent Participation by Gram Panchayats
Tripura has achieved a major national milestone by delivering an outstanding performance in the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, announced the results on February 2, 2026.
The PAI 2.0 assessment covered the 2023–24 financial year. It evaluated the efficiency, transparency, and service delivery of Gram Panchayats across the country. Gram Panchayats in Tripura emerged as strong performers, reinforcing the state’s reputation for effective grassroots governance.

Strong Institutional Framework Highlighted
Tripura achieved a rare distinction in the national assessment. All 1,176 Gram Panchayats in the state participated in the evaluation process. The state recorded 100 per cent data submission and verification at the block, district, state, and national levels.
Officials said the achievement reflects Tripura’s robust institutional framework and coordinated administrative approach. They added that consistent monitoring and capacity-building at the village level played a key role in the strong performance.
Top National Rankings for Tripura Panchayats
Sharing details of the results, Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman said that Jugal Kishore Nagar Village Committee under Jampuijala RD Block in Sepahijala district secured the top national rank. The Gram Panchayat scored 88.44 points, outperforming nearly 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats across India.
“This exceptional achievement highlights Tripura’s leadership and excellence in Panchayat performance at the national level,” the minister said.
Sepahijala District Dominates Top Positions
Tripura continued to dominate the top rankings with multiple Gram Panchayats from Sepahijala district featuring among the best performers. South Nalchar Gram Panchayat of Nalchar RD Block secured the third position nationally with a score of 88.14.
Chesrimai Gram Panchayat under Charilam RD Block also delivered a strong performance. It ranked fourth at the national level with a score of 87.85. Officials said the results highlight the district’s effective planning and strong implementation of development programmes.
Focus on Data-Driven and Grassroots Governance
Minister Kishor Barman said the PAI 2.0 results reflect the state government’s continued focus on strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions. He emphasized the role of data-driven governance and transparency in improving service delivery.
According to the minister, Tripura’s Gram Panchayats have adopted best practices in planning, monitoring, and citizen engagement. These efforts have helped ensure better implementation of welfare schemes and development projects at the village level.
Officials said the state government plans to build on this success by further enhancing digital systems, training Panchayat representatives, and promoting accountability. They added that Tripura aims to set new benchmarks in grassroots governance in the coming years.
