Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha revealed that the state government plans to upgrade two of Tripura’s premier institutions—Women’s College, Agartala and Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT), Narsingarh—into full-fledged universities. This move falls under the state’s broader vision to boost higher education and empower youth across Tripura.
While addressing the 57th Annual College Week celebration at Women’s College, CM Saha stated that the government is seriously considering the proposal. He emphasized that the necessary steps would soon follow, including discussions with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and other regulatory bodies.

Women’s College to Become a Women’s University
Tripura education upgrade will see Women’s College in Agartala, one of the oldest institutions in the state, transformed into a women’s university. The Chief Minister said this proposal aligns with the state’s goal of promoting women’s empowerment through education.
He stressed that when women receive better access to higher education, the entire family and society benefit. Therefore, the university status will not only increase academic autonomy but also open up new career paths for female students.
