The Tripura government collected more than ₹52.04 crore in penalties from traffic law violations over the last three financial years, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha informed the state Assembly on Monday. The figures show a steady increase in revenue from traffic enforcement between 2023-24 and 2025-26.
The government collected ₹16.23 crore in 2023-24, ₹17.79 crore in 2024-25 and ₹18.02 crore in 2025-26. Authorities have also intensified enforcement against drunken driving, overloading, speeding and other traffic violations. The Home Department continues to use both prosecution reports (PRs) and e-challans to take action against traffic offenders.

Traffic Fine Collection Crosses ₹52 Crore
Chief Minister Manik Saha shared the traffic enforcement figures while replying to an unstarred question from MLA Nayan Sarkar in the Assembly.
According to the Chief Minister, the state collected ₹16,23,13,525 in 2023-24. The collection increased to ₹17,79,57,700 in 2024-25.
In 2025-26, the government collected another ₹18,02,00,600. Together, the three years generated ₹52,04,71,825 in traffic-related penalties.
The year-wise figures show a gradual rise in collections as authorities continued to enforce traffic rules across the state.
Enforcement Against Drunken Driving
In a separate Assembly reply to MLA Sailendra Chandra Nath, the Chief Minister provided details of enforcement action against several categories of traffic violations.
During 2025-26, authorities registered 1,276 prosecution reports (PRs) for drunken driving and collected ₹12.90 lakh in fines.
During the same period, enforcement teams registered 4,547 PRs for overloading and collected ₹1.29 crore in penalties.
Speeding and Other Violations
Authorities also took action against motorists for over-speeding. They registered 2,700 PRs and collected around ₹1.15 crore in fines during 2025-26.
However, other traffic violations accounted for the largest enforcement category. Authorities registered 63,592 PRs, generated 41,637 e-challans and collected ₹16.29 crore in penalties.
The figures highlight the growing use of digital enforcement alongside conventional prosecution procedures.
Enforcement Continues in 2026-27
Traffic enforcement continued during the current financial year as well. The government provided figures for the period up to July 31, 2026.
During this period, authorities registered 398 drunken driving PRs and collected ₹4.86 lakh in fines.
For overloading, officials registered 1,701 PRs and collected ₹44.08 lakh. Meanwhile, enforcement against over-speeding resulted in 791 PRs and ₹31.18 lakh in penalties.
₹5.18 Crore Collected for Other Violations
Other traffic violations again accounted for a significant share of enforcement during 2026-27 up to July 31.
Authorities registered 23,965 PRs and generated 10,010 e-challans. These actions resulted in penalties worth ₹5.18 crore.
The government said the combined penalty collection from enforcement activities during 2025-26 and 2026-27 up to July 31 stood at ₹24,85,84,380.
Government Strengthens Traffic Enforcement
The latest figures show that Tripura continues to focus on traffic rule enforcement. Authorities are targeting dangerous practices such as drunken driving, overloading and speeding.
At the same time, the use of e-challans allows enforcement agencies to digitally record violations and impose penalties.
The government’s figures also indicate that traffic enforcement contributes significantly to state revenue while supporting efforts to improve road safety and compliance with traffic rules.
