Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Monday (March 04) that the state government has put forth a proposal to the central government for the inclusion of four additional roads in Tripura as national highways.
Expanding the National Highway Network
During the second day of the budget session in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, CM Saha underscored the state’s existing infrastructure, which currently comprises six national highways spanning a total length of 923.31 km.
In his capacity as the Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) for Tripura, CM Saha confirmed, “A proposal has been dispatched to the central government seeking the designation of four more roads within the state as National Highways.”
Identified Roads for Inclusion
CM Saha outlined the four roads earmarked for potential inclusion:
- Kamalpur-Santirbazar (NH-8) via Ambassa, Gandacherra, Amarpur (NH-208) covering a distance of 148 km.
- Champaknagar (Jirania) to Udaipur via Khumulwng (NH-8) and Jampuijala, spanning 40 km.
- Amarpur to Udaipur, stretching over 24 km.
- Shantirbazar to Belonia, extending 17.25 km.
These roads have been provisionally declared as national highways, pending approval from the central government.
CM Saha revealed that the state currently hosts 21 state highways, totaling 1057.45 km in length.
