Tripura Launches Online UG Admissions for 29 Government Colleges, Introduces New Courses Under NEP 2020

Agartala, May 30, 2026: The Higher Education Department has started the online admission process for undergraduate courses in 29 Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) across Tripura for the 2026-27 academic session. The admission process began on May 29 and will continue through the SAMARTH portal until June 7. Furthermore, the state has added Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College to the higher education network and introduced new academic programmes in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The department has also increased seat capacity in selected courses to expand access to higher education. Additionally, officials announced plans to operationalise two new state universities in the coming years.

Tripura Begins Online UG Admission Process

The Higher Education Department has launched the online admission process for undergraduate courses in Government Degree Colleges across Tripura.

Students can submit applications through the SAMARTH portal from May 29 to June 7. Moreover, the department will conduct the entire admission process online to ensure transparency, convenience, and merit-based selection.

Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma announced the details during a press briefing at the State Secretariat in Agartala.

Admissions Through SAMARTH Portal Only

According to the department, students must complete all admission-related procedures through the SAMARTH portal.

Furthermore, authorities will not accept offline applications. Therefore, students need to submit their forms online within the specified timeline.

Officials stated that the digital admission process has simplified access for students and improved transparency in college admissions.

Merit List and Admission Schedule Announced

The department has already finalized the admission schedule for the academic session.

The first merit list will be published on June 19. Subsequently, selected candidates can complete their admissions on June 22 and June 23.

Additionally, colleges will conduct further admission rounds based on vacant seats. The final round of admissions will take place between July 4 and July 6.

Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College Begins Operations

One of the major highlights this year is the launch of Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College in Sepahijala district.

The new institution will begin its academic journey during the 2026-27 session. As a result, more female students will gain access to higher education opportunities closer to their homes.

Furthermore, the college is expected to strengthen women’s participation in higher education across the region.

New Courses Introduced Under NEP 2020

The Higher Education Department continues to expand academic opportunities in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020.

In line with this vision, authorities have introduced a new B.Sc. (Computer Science) programme at IASE, Kunjaban. The course will offer 30 seats during the upcoming academic session.

Moreover, the department has increased the intake capacity of BA English (Major) from 25 seats to 50 seats at the same institution.

Consequently, students will have greater opportunities to pursue specialized and career-oriented academic programmes.

Seat Capacity Increased Across Colleges

The state has expanded its higher education infrastructure by increasing overall seat availability.

According to official data, Government Degree Colleges offered 31,954 seats during the 2025-26 academic session. However, the total intake capacity has now increased to 32,159 seats for 2026-27.

Therefore, the state has added 205 new seats through the establishment of new institutions and the introduction of additional academic programmes.

Sufficient Seats for Higher Secondary Graduates

Officials estimate that nearly 28,967 students have passed Higher Secondary examinations from various boards this year.

Consequently, the available seats in Government Degree Colleges exceed the expected number of eligible applicants.

As a result, the department remains confident that it can accommodate all deserving students seeking admission to undergraduate programmes.

Plans for New State Universities

The government has also taken significant steps to strengthen higher education infrastructure.

Authorities have issued gazette notifications for upgrading the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) into Tripura Government Technical University.

Similarly, Women’s College will be upgraded into Tripura Government Women’s University.

Furthermore, officials are taking the necessary administrative and academic measures to operationalise both institutions as full-fledged universities.
