Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has criticized the recently presented Union Budget, labeling it as pro-corporate and designed to benefit big businesses rather than addressing the needs of the common people. Speaking at a press conference in Agartala, Chaudhury expressed his concerns about the budget’s priorities, accusing the central government of neglecting crucial sectors such as agriculture, education, and healthcare.
Chaudhury stated, “The Union Budget clearly reflects the government’s intention to favor corporate houses over the welfare of the general population. The allocations for essential public services are insufficient and fail to address the pressing issues faced by the common man.” He emphasized that the budget does not provide adequate relief or support for the economically weaker sections, farmers, and small-scale industries, which are the backbone of the country’s economy.
The Leader of Opposition pointed out that the budget’s tax proposals and incentives are skewed towards benefiting large corporations. He argued that this approach would further widen the gap between the rich and the poor, leading to greater economic disparity. “The government seems to be more concerned with appeasing the corporate sector than with uplifting the marginalized and vulnerable sections of society,” Chaudhury added.
In addition to his critique of the budget’s pro-corporate tilt, Chaudhury also expressed disappointment over the lack of substantial measures to combat unemployment. He highlighted that the budget does not offer a clear roadmap for job creation or support for the unemployed youth. “At a time when the country is grappling with high unemployment rates, the budget should have included concrete steps to generate employment opportunities and support job seekers,” he said.
Chaudhury urged the central government to reconsider its budgetary allocations and focus on inclusive growth that benefits all sections of society. He called for increased investment in social infrastructure, particularly in the education and health sectors, to ensure equitable development.
The opposition leader’s remarks come at a time when the budget is being hotly debated across the country, with various stakeholders expressing their views on its potential impact. As the discussion continues, the Tripura Leader of Opposition’s strong stance reflects the growing concern among many that the Union Budget may not adequately address the needs of the broader population.
