Tripura’s Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Sunday instructed officials to accelerate the completion of the state’s largest fuel storage depot. The project, currently under construction in Sekerkot, Sepahijala district, aims to strengthen Tripura’s fuel supply infrastructure and reduce dependency on other states.

During an inspection visit to the site, Chowdhury assessed the progress of the facility and expressed concerns over delays in construction. He urged engineers and project managers to resolve logistical and technical issues swiftly to ensure timely completion. Stressing the importance of the depot for the state’s energy security, he directed officials to work in coordination with the concerned departments to remove any obstacles.

The fuel storage depot, once completed, will significantly enhance Tripura’s capacity to store and distribute fuel efficiently. Officials expect the facility to improve fuel availability, reduce transportation costs, and ensure a steady supply during emergencies or disruptions. Currently, Tripura depends on fuel supplies transported from Assam, which often faces logistical challenges due to weather conditions and road connectivity issues.

Chowdhury emphasized that the government remains committed to improving infrastructure projects that directly benefit the people of Tripura. He assured that the administration is closely monitoring the progress of the depot and will provide necessary support to expedite construction. Acknowledging the project’s critical role in ensuring fuel security, he urged all stakeholders to work with urgency and dedication.

Officials at the site briefed the minister on ongoing construction work and assured him of their commitment to completing the project within the revised deadline. Engineers highlighted key challenges, including delays in material supply and weather-related setbacks, but affirmed that efforts are underway to overcome these hurdles.

The minister reiterated that the depot will play a vital role in stabilizing fuel distribution across the state. He encouraged project teams to maintain quality standards while expediting work. He also assured the public that the government remains focused on addressing infrastructure bottlenecks to support economic growth and daily life in Tripura.

The fuel depot in Sekerkot is expected to become a crucial asset in strengthening Tripura’s energy infrastructure. With the government’s push for faster completion, authorities are working to ensure that the project meets its objectives without further delays.
