Aritra Roy, a mountaineer from Tripura, has successfully climbed Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak outside Asia. The mountain rises to an elevation of 6,967.15 metres and is located in Argentina’s Andes range. Roy reached the summit on January 7, 2026.
This achievement marks a significant step in his quest to complete the prestigious Seven Summits challenge. The challenge involves scaling the highest peak on each of the seven continents. Roy had earlier conquered Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain.

Gruelling Solo Expedition in Extreme Weather
Roy undertook the Mount Aconcagua expedition entirely on his own. The journey involved a demanding 44-kilometre trek across harsh and unpredictable terrain. During the climb, he faced extreme weather conditions.
Temperatures dropped to as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius. He also encountered frequent snowstorms and strong blizzards. These conditions made the ascent both physically exhausting and mentally demanding.
Despite the challenges, Roy maintained a steady pace and relied on his training and experience. His careful planning and discipline played a crucial role in overcoming the hostile environment.
Time at the Summit and Safe Descent
After reaching the summit, Roy spent around 45 minutes at the peak. He used the time to absorb the moment and document his achievement. Soon after, he began his descent.
The descent was completed safely, marking the successful conclusion of the expedition. Safe descent is considered one of the most critical aspects of high-altitude mountaineering.
Message of Perseverance and Inspiration
Reflecting on the climb, Roy said the expedition tested his limits in every way. “The climb pushed me both physically and mentally. Trusting my instincts helped me overcome the toughest moments,” he said.
He dedicated the achievement to people who dare to dream big. Roy also expressed hope that his journey would inspire young adventurers, especially from the Northeast.
Pride for Tripura and Indian Mountaineering
Roy’s success has brought pride to Tripura and added to India’s growing presence in global adventure sports. With Mount Everest and Mount Aconcagua now conquered, he is closer to completing the Seven Summits challenge.
His journey stands as a reminder that determination, preparation, and courage can turn ambitious dreams into reality.
