The tribal welfare department of Tripura announced that a total of 37,323 Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in the state have been disbursed post-matric scholarships, amounting to a sum of Rs. 74.12 crore. Joint Director Saswata Sen shared this information during a press conference held at the secretariat’s conference hall.
Sen informed that out of a total of 37,832 applications submitted by students, all have been meticulously verified and approved at the State Level under the ST Post-Matric scheme. Consequently, payments have been released for 37,323 ST students during the ongoing fiscal year of 2022-23.
He further explained that the initiation of payments for 509 students was temporarily held up due to technical issues related to their bank accounts. Cases of payment failure and students providing incorrect details will be reviewed, and arrangements will be made to rectify the situation. The list of students who were initially left out will be promptly updated on the Department’s website and social media platforms.
However, Sen acknowledged that a recurring challenge faced by the department arises from students pursuing higher studies abroad or in other states. This factor occasionally complicates the process of initiating payments for ST post-matric scholarships.
The disbursement of scholarships represents a significant stride towards supporting the education of ST students in Tripura, facilitating their pursuit of higher studies and skill development. The government’s commitment to fostering educational opportunities for marginalized communities underscores the importance of such initiatives in ensuring inclusive growth and development.
