Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy has assured beneficiaries that pending social pension payments under Central Government-funded schemes will be released within this week. He explained that the delay occurred because the Centre introduced the new SNS-POS payment system, which changed the pension disbursement process.
While State Government-funded pension schemes continue to be paid on time, pensions for old-age, widow, disability, and Antyodaya/BPL beneficiaries remained pending for April, May, and June. Minister Explains Delay in Pension Payments
Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy clarified that the delay in disbursing certain social pensions resulted from the implementation of a new payment mechanism introduced by the Central Government.
Moreover, he assured beneficiaries that the pending dues would be credited within this week. According to the minister, the department has completed the necessary preparations to begin payments under the new system.
State-Funded Schemes Continue Without Delay
Roy said the department administers 34 social pension schemes, of which 30 are fully funded by the Tripura Government.
Furthermore, these State-funded pensions are being disbursed regularly during the first week of every month without interruption.
However, pensions under the Central Government-funded schemes remained pending for April, May, and June. The affected schemes include old-age pensions, widow pensions, disability pensions, and benefits for Antyodaya and Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries.
New SNS-POS System Changed Payment Process
The minister explained that the Centre introduced the SNS-POS payment system, changing the way pension funds reach beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Central Government transferred its share to the State Government. The State then added its contribution before releasing the total monthly pension of ₹2,000 to beneficiaries in a single payment.
Now, the Central Government directly deposits its share into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Meanwhile, the State Government transfers its contribution separately. Roy said synchronising these two payment streams required additional time, which caused the delay.
Trial Payments Successfully Completed
The Social Welfare Department has already tested the new payment mechanism.
Additionally, officials successfully released pension payments to around 100 beneficiaries during the trial phase. The department has also forwarded details of the remaining beneficiaries to the Central Government for further processing.
Roy expressed confidence that the transition to the new system is progressing smoothly.
Beneficiaries Likely to Receive Two Months’ Pension Together
The minister said pending pension payments are likely to reach beneficiaries within the next day or two.
As a result, many eligible beneficiaries are expected to receive two months’ pension together during this week. He also assured that the department is working closely with the Central Government to ensure timely and hassle-free pension disbursement in the coming months.
