Tripura Faces Land Demand from Investors

More Than 6,800 Hectares Currently Unused
Officials said Tripura has allocated 12,832 hectares for tea cultivation. However, only around 6,000 hectares is currently in use.
This leaves a substantial portion of the allocated area unused. The government now plans to explore alternative uses for such land to meet investment requirements.
Investment Interest Grows After July Conclave
The proposed land-use change comes after increased investment interest in the state. Saha said more than 1,200 delegates from outside Tripura attended a business conclave in July.
Following the event, several investors reportedly approached the government for land. Their proposals include tourism projects, medical colleges and super-speciality hospitals.
Focus on Medical Education
Alongside investment plans, the state government is also looking to expand medical education.
Saha said the government is considering super-speciality courses at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital.
The Chief Minister also referred to approval for additional MBBS seats at AGMC. However, recent reports based on the National Medical Commission’s 2026–27 seat matrix list AGMC at 200 seats, while Saha has announced a proposed increase to 250.
