Tripura Police detained two suspected individuals early Saturday during a raid at Tilabazar in the Kailashahar subdivision of Unakoti district, near the Indo-Bangladesh international border.
Police from Irani Police Station carried out the operation based on specific intelligence inputs. Authorities later registered a case (No. 05/2026) on charges of illegal infiltration.
Inspector Srikanta Chakraborty, who led the operation, said officers noticed suspicious movements in the area. “Our team intercepted the two men during the raid. Initially, they claimed to be residents of Halair Par village under Chandipur constituency. However, their statements showed inconsistencies during questioning,” he said.

Identity Under Scrutiny
According to police, the suspects later admitted that they belonged to Sunamganj district in Bangladesh. Officers have launched further verification to confirm their nationality and background.
During the search, police recovered an Indian Permanent Account Number (PAN) card from their possession. Officials described the document as questionable and have contacted the concerned department for verification. Authorities may also send the card for forensic examination if required.
Auto Driver Also Questioned
Police have also detained an electric auto and its driver in connection with the case. Inspector Chakraborty said investigators are questioning the driver to determine whether he knowingly assisted the suspects. He added that authorities are withholding the driver’s identity for investigative reasons.
The two suspects will soon be produced before the Kailashahar court. Police plan to seek remand for further interrogation to uncover possible links and routes used for infiltration.
Border Security Intensified
The incident has raised concerns in border-adjacent areas of Unakoti district. Following the raid, security agencies have intensified surveillance along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Police have increased patrols and strengthened coordination with other agencies to prevent illegal entry.
Inspector Chakraborty assured that the investigation will examine whether the detainees are part of a larger network involved in cross-border infiltration. “We will conduct a thorough probe and take strict action as per law,” he said.
Officials believe the operation highlights the importance of intelligence-based policing in sensitive border regions. As the investigation progresses, authorities aim to identify any broader links and ensure tighter border management.
The case remains under active investigation, and further developments are expected after the suspects are presented in court.
