Major Drug Seizure in North Tripura
Agartala: North Tripura District Police achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing campaign against drug trafficking by seizing 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets valued at around ₹7.5 crore.
The operation took place during a routine vehicle checking drive conducted by Damchara Police Station on Sunday evening. According to police, the seizure highlights the district’s continued efforts to curb illegal narcotics trafficking.
Vehicle Intercepted Near Assam Border
Police established a checkpoint at East RK Pur under Damchara Police Station at around 6:30 PM on June 28.
During the operation, officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number ML05AA0644 that was entering Tripura from Assam. Subsequently, the police carried out a detailed search following legal procedures.
Secret Chamber Used to Hide Narcotics
Authorities searched the vehicle in the presence of the Panisagar Sub-Divisional Executive Magistrate, SDPO K. Sisodia, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and other officials.
During the inspection, officers recovered 1,50,000 Yaba tablets concealed inside a specially designed secret chamber. As a result, police immediately seized the narcotics and took the driver into custody.
One Suspect Arrested
Police identified the accused as Anup Nunia (23), a resident of the Shilkuri area under Silchar Police Station in Assam.
Furthermore, investigators suspect that the vehicle formed part of a larger interstate drug trafficking network. They are now working to identify other individuals linked to the racket.
