In a proactive move on Monday night, Tripura Police thwarted a cannabis smuggling attempt by intercepting a Bolero car at Subnagar Nanka Point in Ambassa, Dhalai district. The operation resulted in the seizure of 13.6 kilograms of dry ganja.
Smuggling Duo Apprehen
The individuals behind the smuggling attempt, identified as Bapi Sharma and Tanmoy Sharma, both residents of Tulakona in Khayepur, Agartala, were promptly taken into custody. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 26 packets of ganja, reinforcing the severity of the smuggling operation.
Legal Consequences Unveiled
The Tripura Police have initiated legal proceedings against the arrested duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Biswajit Debbarma affirmed that after seeking a three-day police remand for further investigation, the arrested individuals would be handed over to the court.
