Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday announced that the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has completed all preparations to provide uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.
Speaking to the media after chairing a virtual review meeting with TSECL officials, Nath said that the government is committed to ensuring reliable electricity for both consumers and puja pandals throughout the state. The meeting was attended by the Power Secretary, the Managing Director, and other senior officials who assessed readiness and reviewed preventive measures.
The minister informed that Tripura currently has 16 power divisions and 79 sub-divisions, all of which have been instructed to ensure transformer maintenance, availability of vehicles, and deployment of sufficient staff for quick response. He added that additional agencies will be kept on standby, while helpline number 1912 has been directed to remain fully alert during the festive period.
Providing details on power generation, Nath stated that Monarchak is producing around 60 MW, Rukhia is generating 19 MW, and Mizoram has kept 40 MW in reserve for Tripura, which will be returned during Christmas. He said that all substations have been properly maintained and that division managers have given feedback to further strengthen preparedness.
Highlighting the state’s growing demand, the minister noted that Tripura’s power requirement peaked at 376 MW on September 1, 2025—the highest so far this year—while the current demand is 320 MW. During past years, the festive demand was 332 MW in 2022, 311 MW in 2023, and 312 MW in 2024. This year, the government anticipates a demand of about 380 MW.
“Based on our track record of uninterrupted supply during the last two years, we are confident of maintaining the same standard this year as well. We appeal to citizens to use electricity responsibly,” Nath said.
He also confirmed that nearly 3,500 Durga Pujas were organized across the state last year and that the department has already received 3,500 applications for temporary power connections this year. These applications will be processed by Friday to ensure timely supply.
To enhance monitoring, the power department will set up special control rooms at both division and sub-division levels. Additionally, emergency teams will be deployed at major puja pandals to respond to any technical faults swiftly.
Nath emphasized that the state has taken all preventive measures to guarantee smooth electricity during the celebrations, assuring citizens and organizers that uninterrupted power will support the grand festival.
