Tripura is gearing up for a significant urban transformation as the Tripura Urban Development Agency (TUDA) prepares to launch three new satellite township projects in Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar. According to official sources, the site selection process in all three locations is nearly complete, and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is expected to formally inaugurate the initiative soon.
The township development plan forms a core part of the Mukhyamantri Satellite Town Development Scheme, first introduced in the 2023–24 state budget. The government has allocated an investment of over ₹500 crore for the next five years to make this ambitious project a reality. The scheme aims to decongest urban centers, promote balanced regional development, and improve citizens’ living standards through sustainable infrastructure and well-planned urban spaces.
Building on the groundwork laid in the previous year, the 2024–25 state budget reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating the implementation of these projects. The newly appointed TUDA Commissioner, Shri Mihir Kanti Deb (IAS), has been actively involved in finalizing project layouts, identifying suitable land parcels, and preparing detailed designs to ensure that construction begins immediately after the official launch.
Each of the three satellite townships will be designed to reflect modern urban planning principles, focusing on affordable housing, eco-friendly design, and integrated economic hubs. The townships will include essential amenities such as healthcare facilities, educational institutions, public transportation systems, green parks, and digital infrastructure.
According to officials, the Agartala satellite township will be developed as a residential and commercial extension of the state capital, easing the population pressure on central Agartala. The Udaipur township will emphasize tourism-friendly and eco-urban infrastructure, while the Dharmanagar project is expected to become a northern economic corridor, linking local industries and trade routes.
The state government believes that the initiative will not only enhance urban livability but also create employment opportunities, attract private investments, and strengthen regional connectivity. These developments are expected to support the state’s broader vision of “New Tripura,” an initiative championed by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to modernize the state’s economy and infrastructure.
