The Tripura government has announced plans to procure 16,000 metric tonnes of paddy from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) during this year’s Rabi season. Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury revealed this initiative on Monday, June 10. The procurement process is set to commence on June 15.
Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the state government aims to support local farmers by ensuring they receive fair prices for their produce. “Our goal is to enhance the agricultural economy and provide financial stability to our farmers,” he stated. This procurement drive reflects the government’s commitment to sustaining the agricultural sector and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
The procurement will be conducted through various collection centers established across the state. These centers will facilitate a smooth and efficient process, ensuring that farmers can easily sell their paddy at the MSP without facing logistical challenges. Minister Chowdhury highlighted that the MSP for paddy has been set according to central government guidelines, aiming to cover production costs and provide farmers with a reasonable profit margin.
