Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma held a courtesy meeting with Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durga Das Uikey on Tuesday during the latter’s visit to the state.

The meeting focused on strengthening efforts to accelerate the overall development of tribal communities in Tripura. Both leaders discussed ways to enhance social and economic empowerment through effective implementation of welfare schemes.

Focus on Welfare Schemes and Inclusion

During the discussion, the ministers reviewed the progress of ongoing tribal welfare programmes. They assessed challenges in implementation and explored measures to ensure wider outreach to tribal populations across the state.

Debbarma highlighted the need for inclusive policies that address education, livelihood, healthcare, and infrastructure. He stressed that welfare initiatives must reach the grassroots level to make a lasting impact.

Centre–State Coordination Emphasised

The Tribal Welfare Minister underlined the importance of close coordination between the Centre and the State. He said cooperative governance remains crucial for improving policy execution and ensuring efficient use of resources.

“We exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the central and state governments,” Debbarma said. “This dialogue will help shape better policies and practical decisions for tribal welfare in the coming days.”

Union Minister Durga Das Uikey assured continued support from the central government. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to empowering tribal communities through targeted schemes and sustainable development initiatives.

Commitment to Tribal Empowerment

The meeting also reaffirmed the government’s resolve to ensure that tribal communities fully benefit from constitutional safeguards and welfare programmes. Both leaders agreed on the need to develop new strategies to address emerging social and economic challenges.

Officials said the interaction laid the groundwork for future collaboration between the Union and State governments. The focus remains on improving living standards while preserving the cultural identity of tribal communities in Tripura.
