Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has alleged large-scale corruption in recruitment at Tripura University. By accusing officiating Vice Chancellor Prof Ganga Prasad Prasain and Registrar Dr Deepak Sharma of serious administrative misconduct. The MLA has written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Urging him to immediately form a High-Level Inquiry Committee to probe the Tripura University recruitment scam.
The letter, sent on June 3, outlines a series of alleged irregularities in faculty and staff appointments made over the past year. Barman accused the university authorities of bypassing standard norms and violating the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines during multiple recruitments.
MLA Highlights Anomalies in Recruitment Process
Sudip Roy Barman, known for his strong anti-corruption stance, stated that recent recruitment drives at Tripura University have raised serious concerns among academic circles and students alike. “There are clear indications that appointments have been made not on merit, but on favoritism, nepotism, and political affiliations,” he wrote.
The Congress leader claimed that important academic and administrative posts were filled without proper advertisement. Also, fair interview processes, or compliance with reservation norms. Demanding a probe into the alleged Tripura University recruitment scam. Barman stressed the need for an independent authority to be empowered with full access to official records, interview panels, and appointment files.
“I appeal to the Hon’ble Minister to ensure that a transparent, independent High-Level Inquiry Committee is formed to bring accountability to the academic ecosystem of Tripura University,” he added.
He further called for the suspension of recruitment until the inquiry is complete and urged immediate disciplinary action against those found guilty.

University Authorities Remain Silent
Despite the gravity of the allegations, Tripura University has not issued any official statement on the matter. Repeated attempts to reach the Vice Chancellor. And also, Registrar for comments were unsuccessful.
Sources within the university, however, have admitted that internal tensions have escalated over the past few months as faculty members have raised concerns about lack of transparency in selection processes. One senior faculty member, requesting anonymity, said, “Several deserving candidates were overlooked. There is a perception that decisions are influenced by external pressure.”
