Agartala, Jan 29:
The first set of beneficiaries under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council’s (TTAADC) flagship TIPRA-HAM Scheme 2025–26 were handed over E-Autos in a formal ceremony held today at Astabal Ground, Agartala.
The programme marked the Phase-1 distribution, during which 160 youth beneficiaries received E-Autos. Under the scheme, a total of 1,600 E-Autos will be distributed in phases to unemployed youth across the TTAADC areas to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship.
The event was attended by Royal Scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, Rajmata Bhihu Kumari Devi, and TTAADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Purna Chandra Jamatia, among other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said the scheme is aimed at providing direct financial benefits and sustainable livelihoods to unemployed youth. He explained that the E-Autos are being provided with subsidy support from TTAADC, while Bajaj Finance and other partners are assisting with financing, enabling beneficiaries to contribute only a small amount.
He said the initiative is designed to help unemployed youth build an income through entrepreneurship. Highlighting the environmental and economic advantages, Pradyot noted that E-Autos do not require petrol or diesel, are rechargeable, and help reduce operating costs. To support this, home-based charging units have also been installed for beneficiaries.
Emphasising future plans, he said the scheme could also benefit farmers, especially those bringing vegetables and produce from villages to markets. He shared that discussions are underway with auto companies and partners to introduce cold storage facilities, so farmers do not have to sell their produce at distress prices if sales are poor during the day.
Stating that his broader goal is to strengthen Tripura’s economic condition, Pradyot said that only when people become economically stronger can greater focus be placed on youth development and building a better future, rather than engaging in constant political conflict. He also stressed the need to support sectors like tourism and transport, making Tripura more self-sustainable and less dependent on external factors.
Responding to political questions, Pradyot said he does not believe in replying to negativity with negativity. He added that decisions on elections are ultimately taken by the people, not by individual leaders, and expressed confidence in public support.
Reacting to remarks made by opposition leaders regarding audits and jail threats, Pradyot said such statements reflect negativity and frustration. He remarked that history shows many great leaders have faced jail, and he is not concerned by such comments. He urged the media to focus instead on positive developments like the livelihoods created today for 160 young people, rather than giving importance to negative statements.
Concluding his remarks, Pradyot said the TIPRA-HAM scheme represents a step toward economic empowerment, dignity, and a better future for the youth of Tripura.
