Uday Reang — popularly known as Young Bru — has launched a first-of-its-kind welfare campaign in the North District aimed at bringing joy to elderly residents aged 85 and above. This marks the first time anyone in the region has introduced a dedicated program focused on providing warm clothing and essential winter items to the oldest members of remote tribal communities.
The noble effort began in Longthir Para, one of Tripura’s most remote villages, where many elderly residents struggle with limited access to basic necessities. Understanding the hardships faced during the winter months, Uday Reang and his team personally distributed new sweaters, warm clothes, and shoes to senior citizens who often endure the cold without adequate protection.
The initiative has been widely appreciated by local residents, who see it as a compassionate gesture toward a generation that has contributed immensely to the community but often remains overlooked. For many beneficiaries, this small but meaningful act brought visible happiness and comfort — some receiving new warm clothing for the first time in years.
Uday Reang shared that this is only the beginning of a broader mission to support elderly individuals living in difficult terrains and underserved areas across the district. His goal is to ensure that no elderly person faces winter without basic warmth, especially in regions where access to healthcare and financial support is extremely limited.
Local leaders and villagers have praised the initiative as a reminder of the importance of empathy and community responsibility. By choosing to start with one of the remotest villages, the initiative highlights the need for increased attention toward marginalized communities across Tripura.
