Miscreants Target Monpui Area
Tension has escalated in the Monpui area of Jampui Hill under Tripura’s Unakoti district after unidentified miscreants carried out acts of vandalism. The attackers damaged property, felled trees in local gardens, and defaced the signboard of the Mizo Convention.
The incident has alarmed local residents and triggered widespread condemnation. People expressed deep concern over the damage in one of Tripura’s most scenic and well-maintained tourist destinations.
Jampui Hill lies around 177 kilometres from Agartala and attracts visitors throughout the year for its natural beauty and peaceful environment.

Residents Condemn Damage to Tourist Hub
Locals voiced strong anger over the vandalism, calling it an attack on the region’s identity and values. Many residents described Jampui Hill as one of the cleanest places in Tripura and a symbol of harmony between nature and culture.
Community members said such acts threaten the area’s reputation, which has grown due to its cleanliness, hospitality, and cultural richness.
“This place welcomes everyone with an open heart,” a resident said. “But vandalism and destruction cannot be tolerated.”
Appeal to Tourists to Respect Local Values
Residents issued a clear appeal to visitors, urging them to respect the environment and local traditions.
“All are welcome in Jampui Hill, the cleanest place in Tripura,” community members said. “But visitors must not litter, harm nature, or destroy public property. Please respect our culture, norms, and values—the very things that define us.”
They stressed that responsible tourism plays a key role in preserving the region’s charm.
Fear of Damage to Jampui Hill’s Image
Local leaders fear that repeated incidents of vandalism could harm the hill station’s image. Jampui Hill remains known for its lush greenery, orange orchards, and warm hospitality.
Residents warned that unchecked damage could discourage tourists and affect livelihoods linked to tourism. They emphasized that development and tourism must go hand in hand with accountability.
“Come, visit, and enjoy,” community leaders said. “But do so responsibly.”
Call for Stronger Monitoring and Awareness
The incident has renewed calls for stricter monitoring across hill tourism zones. Residents and community leaders urged authorities to increase surveillance and take preventive steps to avoid future incidents.
They also highlighted the need for awareness campaigns to educate visitors about environmental protection and cultural sensitivity.
Protecting ecological balance and cultural heritage, they said, remains essential to ensuring sustainable tourism in Tripura’s hill regions.
As investigations continue, locals hope swift action will restore confidence and preserve the peaceful character of Jampui Hill.
