Argument at PWD Office Sparks Chaos
The conflict began earlier in the afternoon at the PWD office. Two contractor groups argued over the road construction tender. Eventually, the heated argument spilled into Tilla Bazar. As a result, the market area turned into a violent battleground by evening.
Rival Groups Clash Over Road Tender
The clash involved groups from Irani Gram Panchayat and Lathiyapara Gram Panchayat. The fight started after a roadwork tender went to a contractor from Tilla Bazar. Moreover, the work was assigned in the name of the contractor’s brother, which angered the rival side.
Soon after the tender announcement, threats reportedly increased. According to Liton Ali, brother of injured contractor Mithun Ali, their group received the work legally. However, he claimed that the opposing group reached the spot with sharp weapons and attacked them soon after learning about the tender.
Residents Strongly Condemn the Incident
Local residents expressed sharp displeasure over the growing violence. Gournagar Panchayat Samiti Vice-Chairman Badruzzaman said such incidents deeply disturb the peace of Tilla Bazar. Additionally, he stated that the sound of gunfire and the open display of weapons shocked the entire locality. Therefore, he urged the administration to take stronger steps immediately.
Multiple Injuries and Hospital Referrals
Although no one suffered bullet wounds, several people sustained serious injuries from sharp weapons. Doctors at the district hospital treated them first. Later, they were referred to Silchar for better medical support. Meanwhile, family members demanded a quick investigation into the attack.
Tender Rivalry Linked to Rising Tension
Contractor Liton Miya said new tenders for road construction in Irani and Nurpur panchayats recently came out. Consequently, competition intensified among contractors. He believes this ongoing rivalry triggered the aggressive behaviour. Moreover, he urged authorities to ensure transparency and fairness in the tender process.
Public Demands Immediate Action
The violent incident sparked widespread criticism across Kailashahar. Many residents questioned how armed groups could operate freely in a crowded market. Furthermore, they demanded strict police action and stronger monitoring to prevent such incidents in the future. Therefore, many community members insisted that the administration must act without delay to restore peace and confidence.
