Vistara and Spicejet, two prominent airlines, are gearing up to launch new direct services from Agartala, further expanding air connectivity from the capital city of Tripura. Vistara, owned by the TATA Group, plans to inform the Agartala MBB airport managing authority about the date and timing of its direct service to Bengaluru, while Spicejet is scheduled to commence its service to Chittagong, Bangladesh, from June 26. The director of the Agartala MBB airport, K.C. Meena, has indicated that efforts are underway to finalize immigration and customs facilities to facilitate the smooth launch of these new services.

The authorities at Vistara, in coordination with the TATA Group, are working closely with the Agartala MBB airport to determine the launch date of their direct service to Bengaluru. As the preparations progress, it is expected that Vistara will initiate the new route around June 20 or thereabouts. This service will provide convenient connectivity between Agartala and major cities such as Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Guwahati. Vistara’s entry into this market will strengthen the TATA Group’s presence in the aviation sector, as they already own Air India, which was acquired from the Indian government in late 2021.

Spicejet’s Service to Chittagong: Spicejet, a popular Indian low-cost carrier, had initially planned to launch its service to Chittagong in Bangladesh in June. However, the launch has been rescheduled to June 26, allowing a slight delay in finalizing the necessary arrangements. The introduction of this route will provide travelers from Agartala with a direct connection to Chittagong, opening up new avenues for trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between the two neighboring countries.

The director of Agartala MBB airport, K.C. Meena, has acknowledged that certain aspects related to immigration counters and customs duties for the new services are yet to be finalized. However, he assured that efforts are underway to expedite the completion of these facilities to facilitate the smooth launching of the services.
