The Department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) will hold a meeting of the media sub-committee for the Agartala Book Fair tomorrow. The committee will discuss the opening of the media centre, the photo exhibition gallery, and other preparations.
Deputy Director Rajat Kanti Das stated in an invitation letter that the meeting will start at 4:30 PM in the ICA office conference hall. The session aims to ensure smooth media coverage for the fair.
Committee Remains Valid
The ICA clarified that the media sub-committee formed for the 43rd Agartala Book Fair on December 3 last year is still active. Maintaining the same committee ensures consistency in planning and execution.

44th Agartala Book Fair Details
The 44th edition will run from January 2 to January 14 at the International Fair Ground in Hapania. The fair will feature books, exhibitions, and cultural programs for visitors across Tripura.
Past Controversy Over Venue
Last year, the first sub-committee meeting ended amid protests. Several members walked out, opposing the choice of Hapania. They wanted the fair returned to Agartala town for visitor convenience.
The government defended Hapania as the venue, citing ready infrastructure, expanded facilities for visitors, and reduced expenses compared to building new infrastructure in Agartala town.
Focus on Media and Exhibitions
The ICA aims to resolve all concerns and ensure professional media coverage. The committee will finalize press access, photography permissions, and exhibition arrangements.
Officials hope these preparations will make the fair a seamless experience for both media representatives and visitors.
Cultural Significance
The Agartala Book Fair is a major cultural event in Tripura, attracting authors, publishers, and literary enthusiasts from across India. Organizers stress that efficient media coverage and organized exhibition spaces are vital to the fair’s success.
By addressing past disagreements proactively, the ICA expects a cooperative approach this year. The 44th Agartala Book Fair promises to celebrate literature while boosting cultural engagement in Tripura.
