Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha recently emphasized the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education during a keynote speech at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) University. As institutions across India move toward digital transformation, Tripura is actively integrating AI into its education system to enhance learning outcomes and future readiness.

The CM’s remarks at the university’s convocation brought attention to the rapid pace at which AI is revolutionising education in Tripura and highlighted the government’s plans to invest in tech-based learning solutions.

Bridging Gaps with AI in Education

In his address, CM Saha stated that artificial intelligence could bridge critical gaps in rural education by offering personalized and adaptive learning solutions. Many students in Tripura, especially those in remote areas, face difficulties in accessing quality education. AI-based tools can provide real-time feedback, individual performance tracking, and content delivery in regional languages, thus making education more inclusive and effective.

Saha asserted that integrating AI will reduce the digital divide and help empower students to compete on a global level. The initiative is not just about adopting technology, he added, but about transforming the educational experience for both students and teachers.

AI Labs and Smart Classrooms in the Works

The Tripura government has already begun laying the groundwork for introducing AI labs and smart classrooms in government schools and colleges. MBB University is expected to serve as a pilot institution for this initiative.

According to CM Saha, AI-powered systems will be implemented in phases, starting with higher education institutions and gradually expanding to secondary and primary schools. These systems will help teachers with administrative tasks, grading, and curriculum planning, allowing more time for creative and critical thinking exercises in classrooms.

The CM also mentioned partnerships with edtech companies and national institutions to develop AI-driven curriculum modules tailored to local needs.

Faculty Upskilling and Digital Literacy

Alongside infrastructure, the state government is focusing on capacity-building efforts for educators. MBB University has already begun offering faculty training workshops in digital tools and artificial intelligence. These workshops aim to familiarize teachers with smart teaching methods, AI-assisted evaluation systems, and online content platforms.

CM Saha underlined the importance of upskilling faculty so that they can guide students effectively in this new learning environment. He noted that a strong teaching community is crucial for the successful implementation of AI in classrooms.

The administration is also encouraging students to explore AI applications through coding camps, hackathons, and AI literacy drives.

A Vision for Tripura’s Academic Future

The speech at MBB University reflected a larger vision for Tripura’s academic ecosystem—a future where technology enhances rather than replaces traditional teaching methods. The Chief Minister emphasized that the core values of education—curiosity, creativity, and collaboration—must remain central, with AI acting as a facilitator, not a replacement.

By incorporating AI tools in lesson plans, assessment techniques, and content delivery, Tripura aims to increase engagement levels among students and ensure long-term knowledge retention.

Saha also hinted at possible plans for launching an AI innovation hub in Agartala, where students and researchers could collaborate on real-world tech projects.

National Alignment and Global Goals

Tripura’s AI-in-education initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages the use of emerging technologies to create a more holistic and inclusive learning environment. It also resonates with global efforts to make education more personalized and skill-based.

CM Saha concluded his address by urging universities like MBB to take the lead in research and innovation, which will further strengthen Tripura’s reputation in India’s higher education landscape.

What This Means for Students and Parents

For students, the integration of AI in education means access to customized learning experiences, real-time doubt solving, and better exam preparedness. For parents, it ensures that children can learn at their own pace with improved guidance, even in rural or semi-urban settings.

Institutions like MBB University will serve as incubators for this change, driving innovation from within the state. As more students get exposed to AI tools and platforms, their career options in tech-driven fields will expand significantly.
