Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for abandoning their traditional seats in Uttar Pradesh. According to Shah, their decision was fueled by a lack of self-confidence. Shah made these remarks on April 30 during a political event in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi, the former president of the Indian National Congress, had been contesting from the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh for several terms. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he faced defeat to BJP leader Smriti Irani. Following this loss, Gandhi decided to shift to the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.

Similarly, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, chose not to contest from her traditional seat, Rae Bareli, in Uttar Pradesh. Instead, she focused her efforts on campaigning in other parts of the state during the 2019 general elections.

Amit Shah’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions and electoral strategies ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP has been making significant efforts to strengthen its position in the state, while the Congress party is striving to regain its foothold.

Shah’s statement underscores the perception that the Congress party lacks confidence in its ability to win elections in Uttar Pradesh. By opting to contest from other constituencies or not contesting at all, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi have raised questions about their party’s strategy and leadership approach.

The decision of the Congress leaders to abandon their traditional seats has sparked debates and discussions within political circles. Some argue that it reflects a pragmatic approach to expand the party’s influence beyond its traditional strongholds, while others view it as a sign of weakness or strategic retreat.

As the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh continues to evolve, the actions and decisions of key leaders like Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi will be closely scrutinized. The upcoming assembly elections in the state are poised to be highly competitive, with various parties vying for power and influence.

Amit Shah’s remarks serve as a reminder of the complex dynamics at play in Indian politics and the strategies employed by different parties to assert their dominance. The Congress party’s decision to abandon its traditional seats in Uttar Pradesh reflects the ongoing challenges and uncertainties faced by the opposition in the current political landscape.
