Assam BJP Chief Slams Congress Over Sonia and Rahul Gandhi’s Defense

Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia has launched a fierce attack on the Congress party, calling its defense of party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi amid ongoing legal troubles “laughable.” Saikia’s comments came in response to the nationwide protests organized by Congress in defense of its senior leaders, following the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet in the National Herald case.

The chargesheet, filed by the ED, pertains to allegations of financial mismanagement and money laundering related to the National Herald newspaper. The case has drawn significant attention, with Sonia and Rahul Gandhi at the center of the controversy. The Congress party has fiercely defended its leaders, claiming that the charges are politically motivated and part of a broader strategy to undermine the opposition.

Dilip Saikia, however, sees the protests as nothing more than an attempt to deflect attention from the real issue. In a press statement, he criticized the Congress leadership for rallying behind individuals whom he referred to as “looters.” According to Saikia, the Congress party’s defense of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi is not only laughable but also an insult to the people of India who are dealing with real issues of governance, inflation, and unemployment.

Saikia expressed his astonishment that the Congress party, which he accused of rampant corruption during its time in power, would stage such protests to defend its leaders. He pointed out that the Gandhis had been in charge of the party for decades and suggested that their leadership had led to a series of financial scandals. According to him, the Congress party’s repeated attempts to shield its leaders only reflect their reluctance to face accountability for their actions.

The BJP leader also emphasized that the legal proceedings were based on concrete evidence, and the ED’s actions were in line with its duty to investigate financial crimes. He argued that the Congress’s protests were a deliberate strategy to create a political distraction and confuse the public, rather than address the charges levelled against the Gandhis.

Saikia further claimed that the Congress’s accusations of political vendetta were unfounded. He said that the Enforcement Directorate was simply doing its job and that no one, regardless of their position or influence, should be above the law. In his view, the Congress party’s desperate attempts to portray itself as a victim were an insult to the justice system and the people of India, who, according to him, had long been suffering due to Congress’s alleged mismanagement.

In a broader context, Saikia also took aim at the Congress party’s historical role in Indian politics. He noted that the Congress had been in power for many years but failed to deliver on key promises related to economic growth, poverty alleviation, and national security. Saikia’s attack on the Congress party reflects the ongoing battle between the BJP and the opposition, with both sides accusing each other of corruption and mismanagement.

The BJP’s criticism of Congress is not new, especially in the run-up to elections.
