The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, has launched a statewide celebration to honour the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. The party began its programme on April 13, 2025, and will continue the observance until April 25, aligning with the BJP’s nationwide tribute to the Bharat Ratna awardee.

Leaders and members of the Assam BJP have pledged to spread Dr. Ambedkar’s message of social justice, equality, and constitutional values through a series of events across all districts. They have transformed the celebration into a movement to raise awareness about Ambedkar’s life, his role in shaping the Indian Republic, and his contributions to uplift the marginalised communities.

The BJP leadership in Assam has ensured that every unit of the party participates in the commemorative events. They have planned seminars, community outreach programmes, cultural activities, and constitution reading sessions in both urban and rural areas. Senior leaders of the party have already started visiting local offices, interacting with citizens, and urging people to uphold the principles of equality and dignity that Ambedkar stood for.

The celebration began with floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar at party offices and public institutions. Party workers decorated local venues with banners, portraits, and messages highlighting his life and legacy. They invited students, social workers, and legal experts to participate in panel discussions, which focus on Ambedkar’s vision for a just and inclusive India.

State BJP President Bhabesh Kalita flagged off the programme in Guwahati, where he paid homage to Dr. Ambedkar and called on citizens to remember the sacrifices and intellect that went into drafting the Constitution. He stressed the importance of Ambedkar’s teachings in the current socio-political environment. Kalita said that the BJP remains committed to preserving the dignity of every citizen and delivering on Ambedkar’s dream of social harmony and progress.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also joined the celebration in a special programme held in Dibrugarh. He spoke about Ambedkar’s journey from adversity to national leadership and praised his unwavering commitment to justice. The Chief Minister said that Dr. Ambedkar gave the nation a foundation that continues to guide India through modern challenges. Sarma urged the youth to learn from Ambedkar’s life and contribute to a more equal and educated society.

Throughout the first few days of the observance, the BJP’s youth and women’s wings have taken active roles in engaging schools, colleges, and self-help groups. They have distributed educational materials, conducted drawing and essay competitions, and encouraged public participation in Ambedkar-themed exhibitions. Party volunteers have also taken up cleanliness drives and plantation programmes as part of the celebrations.

The state government has extended its support to these initiatives. It has coordinated with the BJP’s social justice cells and scheduled events in government institutions to encourage dialogue on Ambedkar’s constitutional ideals. Ministers and MLAs have joined various events, where they spoke on the relevance of Ambedkar’s values in ensuring good governance and inclusive development.

BJP leaders have announced that the celebration will culminate with a grand event on April 25, which will feature a massive public gathering in Guwahati. They have invited national leaders, constitutional experts, and representatives from Dalit and tribal communities to share their views on Ambedkar’s enduring impact. The party has begun making elaborate arrangements for the closing event, which it hopes will inspire citizens to reflect on the principles of democracy, justice, and liberty.

The BJP in Assam continues to express deep admiration for Dr. Ambedkar’s role in shaping modern India. The party has called the observance more than a tribute—it has called it a reminder of the strength that comes from unity, fairness, and equal opportunity. As the celebrations move forward, the BJP seeks to reach every corner of Assam with Ambedkar’s message and deepen its connect with the people.
