In a resounding endorsement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the recently unveiled Interim Budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025, terming it as a testament to outstanding governance over the past decade. Expressing immense pride in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Sarma emphasized the historic accomplishments delivered under his guidance, surpassing cumulative achievements of the past.

One of the key highlights that caught Sarma’s attention was the allocation of a Rs 75,000 crore interest-free loan to State Governments. This measure provides greater flexibility for the implementation of welfare schemes, aligning with the overarching goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ or developed India. Sarma hailed this as a pivotal step in steering the nation towards comprehensive development.

The proposed Rs 11 lakh crore capital expenditure was recognized by Sarma as a catalyst for creating growth-enabling assets, promising increased momentum in India’s development trajectory. The Chief Minister particularly commended the revolutionary step of supporting 3 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis,’ foreseeing a transformative impact on the country’s rural landscape.

Aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision, Sarma highlighted the allocation of Rs 1 lakh crore for research and innovation, reinforcing the call of ‘Jai Anusandhan’ and expanding the frontiers of technology. This, he believes, sets the stage for India’s technological prowess and global competitiveness.

Fiscal prudence was acknowledged in the budget’s reduction of the fiscal deficit to 5.1 per cent, below market expectations. Sarma appreciated the Finance Minister’s adept management despite prevailing global economic challenges. This move reflects a commitment to financial stability and responsible governance.

The Chief Minister concluded by framing the Interim Budget as a dual achievement: firmly establishing India as the world’s fastest-growing economy and laying a robust foundation for Prime Minister Modi’s vision of guiding the nation towards becoming the third-largest economy by 2029. He extended hearty congratulations to both Prime Minister Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their exceptional budgetary measures, emphasizing the transformative impact these measures are poised to have on the nation’s trajectory.
