Lovlina Receives Rs 50 Lakh Cheque
Sarma felicitated Borgohain during her meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan. He presented her with a cheque worth Rs 50 lakh under the state’s Integrated Sports Policy.
The reward recognises her achievement at the Asian Games. Sarma also congratulated the boxer and praised her performance on the international stage.
The Assam government has also scheduled an official felicitation programme for Borgohain.
Historic Asian Games Gold for Lovlina
Borgohain won the women’s 75kg boxing final on October 2. She defeated China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5-0 decision.
The victory came on Borgohain’s 29th birthday, making the achievement even more memorable. She had previously won silver in the same category at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Her latest performance helped her improve from silver to gold at the continental event.
Second Indian Woman Boxer to Win Asian Games Gold
Borgohain’s victory also placed her among India’s top women boxers. She became only the second Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold medal in boxing.
MC Mary Kom previously achieved the feat in 2014. Borgohain has now joined the former world champion in the record books.
Her gold medal also added another major achievement to a career that already includes an Olympic bronze medal.
Warm Welcome in Guwahati
Borgohain received a warm welcome after arriving at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Biswajit Daimary, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, family members and supporters gathered at the airport to welcome the boxer.
People from different sections also celebrated her return to the state following her successful Asian Games campaign.
Assam Celebrates Its Boxing Champion
Borgohain’s success has generated celebrations across Assam, particularly in her native Golaghat district. Her achievement has brought attention to the state’s contribution to Indian boxing.
The boxer has become an important sporting figure in Assam following her Olympic and international performances.
Her latest gold medal has further strengthened her position among India’s leading boxers.
Government Encourages Sporting Talent
The Rs 50 lakh reward also highlights the Assam government’s focus on supporting athletes who achieve success at major international events.
Financial incentives can provide athletes with additional support as they prepare for future competitions. Such recognition can also encourage young people to take up sports and pursue competitive careers.
Sarma said Borgohain’s achievement would inspire the next generation of athletes to aim higher in their sporting journeys.
A New Milestone in Lovlina’s Career
Lovlina Borgohain’s Asian Games gold adds another major milestone to her career. She has already represented India at the Olympics and won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games.
Her latest victory came after she defeated a strong Chinese opponent in the 75kg final. The result also marked a significant improvement from her silver-medal performance at the previous Asian Games.
With the Rs 50 lakh reward from the Assam government, the state has formally recognised her latest achievement.
Borgohain’s success is expected to inspire more young athletes in Assam to pursue boxing and other competitive sports.
