Assam Deputy Speaker Dr. Numal Momin visited Goalpara district on April 30 to conduct a review of healthcare facilities while simultaneously campaigning for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections. During his visit, Dr. Momin inspected various health centres and interacted with both medical staff and local residents. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rural healthcare and bridge service gaps in underserved areas.
Dr. Momin began the day by reviewing the functioning of the Lakhipur Model Hospital. He inquired about the availability of essential medicines, manpower, and emergency services. Doctors briefed him about the challenges they face in catering to the increasing patient load, especially in the wake of seasonal illnesses. He assured them that the state health department would promptly address staffing shortages and upgrade medical infrastructure to meet the rising demand.
In between his official engagements, Dr. Momin met local BJP workers and urged them to intensify campaign activities. He reminded them that the NDA government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, had consistently prioritised development and good governance. He stressed that the delivery of central and state schemes, such as Ayushman Bharat and Orunodoi, had reached the grassroots, benefiting thousands in Goalpara.
He also addressed a public meeting in Matia block, where he spoke about the NDA’s focus on inclusive growth and targeted welfare measures for the marginalized. He criticized opposition parties for their lack of vision and alleged that their past governance models had neglected rural Assam. Dr. Momin stated that the NDA would continue its momentum and secure a resounding victory in the panchayat elections due later this year.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later joined the campaign trail through a separate Vijay Sankalp rally held in the district. Dr. Sarma reaffirmed his confidence in the NDA’s grassroots network and praised the deputy speaker’s outreach efforts. He said the BJP-led coalition is prepared to sweep the elections due to its consistent delivery of development promises and widespread public trust.
At a subsequent review held with district health officials, Dr. Momin instructed authorities to streamline data collection on maternal and child health services. He asked for urgent intervention to reduce anemia and malnutrition rates in tribal-dominated pockets of Goalpara. He also announced plans to hold monthly health grievance camps to address residents’ concerns directly.
The deputy speaker later visited a sub-centre in the remote Baladmari area and spoke to women health volunteers who are part of the state’s Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) programme. He praised their dedication and emphasized their role in making primary healthcare more accessible. The ASHA workers expressed concerns about delayed honorarium payments, to which Dr. Momin assured timely resolution.
During the day-long tour, several villagers submitted petitions requesting improvements in road connectivity and clean drinking water facilities. Dr. Momin noted their concerns and said the panchayat system must become the engine for local change under NDA’s renewed leadership. He asked residents to elect leaders who prioritize service over politics.
Later in the evening, the deputy speaker held discussions with BJP booth-level workers and advised them to highlight the work done under the double-engine government. He encouraged them to use digital platforms and door-to-door campaigns to communicate with young voters.
As the campaigning gains pace, the BJP and its allies have stepped up their visibility across Goalpara. With prominent leaders like Dr. Momin actively combining governance with political outreach, the NDA is making a strong pitch to retain and expand its rural base.
