Police Intercept Vehicle at Samdang Bypass
According to reports, Doomdooma Police received credible information about a suspected narcotics delivery near Samdang Bypass. The location lies along National Highway-15.
Police quickly responded to the information and intercepted a Swift car near the bypass. The vehicle reportedly came from the Talap area.
Officers searched the vehicle after stopping it. During the search, they discovered suspected heroin concealed inside the car.
The operation resulted in the apprehension of all three occupants of the vehicle. Police subsequently took the individuals to Doomdooma Police Station for further questioning and legal proceedings.
350.27 Grams of Suspected Heroin Recovered
Police recovered a total of 350.27 grams of suspected heroin from the vehicle. Officers reportedly found the substance concealed inside eight soap boxes.
The concealment method suggests that those transporting the suspected narcotics allegedly attempted to hide the substance during transportation.
The Sentinel Assam reported that police estimated the market value of the seized substance at around Rs 70 lakh. However, the substance remains described as suspected heroin, and its final identification would depend on the appropriate examination and legal process.
The seizure represents a substantial quantity compared with several smaller narcotics recoveries reported by police in the Tinsukia region in recent months.
Three People Apprehended
Police apprehended three people during the operation, including a woman.
The three were identified in reports as 47-year-old Pradip Konwar of Moran Gospur in Dibrugarh district, 45-year-old Gobinda Dutta of Moran and Purnalata Barua.
Police are questioning the three individuals as part of the investigation. Officers are expected to examine their alleged roles in the transportation of the suspected narcotics.
Investigators may also look into the source of the substance and its intended destination. The investigation could help establish whether the seizure relates to a wider drug distribution network.
