Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that the state has become a “much better place to live” under the BJP’s governance since 2016. Speaking at a public event in Guwahati, he highlighted the government’s efforts in boosting development, ensuring security, and empowering indigenous communities.
Sarma credited infrastructural growth, improved law and order, and a focus on indigenous rights as key factors behind Assam’s transformation. He pointed to large-scale road projects, the modernization of healthcare facilities, and the expansion of educational institutions as examples of the progress made over the past nine years.
He emphasized that his government has prioritized the empowerment of Assam’s indigenous communities. Policies aimed at securing land rights for indigenous people and preserving the state’s cultural identity have been central to the administration’s vision. The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Assamese heritage while fostering an environment of development and economic growth.
Discussing the issue of religious coexistence, Sarma stated that Assam has maintained a balance between different communities while ensuring that the indigenous population remains at the core of policymaking. He reiterated the government’s stance on curbing illegal migration, stating that strict measures have been taken to safeguard the rights of the local population.
The Chief Minister highlighted Assam’s economic progress, citing rising employment opportunities and the government’s push for entrepreneurship. He pointed to new industrial investments and government-backed schemes that have helped small businesses thrive. Sarma also mentioned that Assam’s per capita income has seen a steady rise, reflecting an overall improvement in living standards.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly in bridging infrastructure gaps in rural areas. However, he assured that the government remains committed to addressing these concerns and ensuring that development reaches every corner of the state.
Sarma’s remarks come at a time when Assam is witnessing rapid changes in its socio-political landscape. With upcoming elections on the horizon, his government aims to further consolidate support by showcasing the progress achieved under BJP’s leadership.

He underscored the state’s achievements in the healthcare sector, pointing to new medical colleges, upgraded hospitals, and improved rural healthcare services. The expansion of Ayushman Bharat and state-run health insurance schemes has made quality healthcare more accessible to the common people.
Sarma also spoke about the government’s push for environmental conservation. He mentioned that large-scale afforestation projects and stricter measures against encroachment in protected areas have helped preserve Assam’s natural resources. The Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has seen an increase in wildlife numbers due to better conservation efforts.
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to infrastructure development, citing the construction of new highways, bridges, and railways. He highlighted the ambitious plans to turn Guwahati into a major commercial hub by improving connectivity and modernizing urban infrastructure.
Looking ahead, Sarma assured that his government will continue working towards a self-reliant Assam. He encouraged youth participation in governance and urged the people to support the government’s mission of making Assam one of the most developed states in the country.
