Assam: Soldier Slits Throat of Wife, Daughter in Camp, Arrested

In a shocking incident, a soldier from Jammu brutally killed his wife and minor daughter inside an army camp of the Assam Rifles at Cachar’s Srikona on Saturday,3 September over a family dispute. The accused soldier has been identified as Havildar Ravinder Kumar of 39 Assam Rifles.

The accused has been arrested, Hindustan Times reported. “Havildar (general duty) Ravinder Kumar of 39 AR killed his wife Monika Dogra (32) and his daughter Riddhi (10) at around 4.15 am on September 3.

 The individual belongs to Jammu’s Jourian in Akhnoor and his wife is a native of Samba,’ said a Defence official.

The accused moved his family to the 39 AR’s family quarters in Srikona on 10 March this year.

 “He was detained and shifted to a quarter guard before police formally arrested him,” said the official. The defense official further testified that the accused used a machete to cut the throat of his wife and his minor daughter.

 “What led him to such an extreme step is still unknown, but there was a quarrel in the family, The bodies were seen lying on the floor of his family quarter in a pool of blood,” ” he said.

After the horrific act, Police searched for the missing husband, Ravinder Kumar, from the Akhnoor region in Jammu. The jawan was found at a temple near his quarter in an incoherent state, from where he was arrested, police said adding that during the interrogation, he admitted to killing his wife and daughter by cutting their throats over a family dispute.

Kumar was produced before a local court remanded him in judicial custody.

“We have started an investigation to determine the cause of the murders,” police said.

The incident has created a stir at the Assam Rifles camp in Srikona.
