In a commendable display of environmental commitment, five schools in Assam have been recognized for their exceptional efforts in the “Mission Prakriti” initiative, a collaborative program by WWF-India and Samagra Shiksha, Assam. The initiative aims to transform schools into eco-friendly institutions and educate students on environmental issues, fostering values for a sustainable future.
Celebrating Green Achievements: Award Ceremony on World Wetland Day
The award ceremony, coinciding with World Wetland Day at the State Mission Office, acknowledged the accomplishments of over 10,000 schools and 50,000 student leaders actively participating in the program. “Mission Prakriti,” launched in August 2023, focuses on key themes such as biodiversity, water, waste, food, and energy, engaging students in various environmental aspects.
Out of the 3,200 ICT schools across Assam, five emerged as top performers for the academic year 2023-24. These schools – Dibrugarh Government Girls’ HS & MP School, Joktali Higher Secondary School (Sivasagar), Nutan Kanchanpur ME School (Cachar), Dandua MV School (Morigaon), and Dawson HS & MP School (Nagaon) – showcased outstanding commitment to environmental transformation.
District Recognition: Dibrugarh Shines as Best District
Dibrugarh district stood out as the Best District, demonstrating exceptional commitment to the goals of “Mission Prakriti.” It achieved the highest percentage of schools successfully completing the program, showcasing a collective effort toward environmental sustainability.
Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, Dr Om Prakash, Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, Prof Ranjit Choudhury, and MC Malakar, lauded the impact of “Mission Prakriti” in empowering future generations. The ceremony served as a platform to highlight the program’s success in fostering environmental awareness and conservation efforts within communities through the establishment of green schools.
Acknowledging Excellence: Trophies, Citations, and Prizes for Winners
During the award ceremony, winning schools, coordinating teachers, and the top 10 district nodal officers were honored with trophies, citations, prizes, and WWF mementos. Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta emphasized the importance of conservation efforts to protect water reservoirs and critical habitats for migratory birds. At the same time, Dr Om Prakash stressed the need for raising awareness about climate change and global warming.
