As the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) gears up for crucial elections, Assam BJP minister Pijush Hazarika has confirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest with “all-round support” and “full seriousness.” He emphasised the party’s commitment to respecting the region’s people and collaborating with regional allies for stable governance.
BJP Gears Up for BTR Elections
Addressing media in Guwahati, Hazarika said the BJP is preparing a comprehensive strategy for the BTR elections. He added that discussions are ongoing to finalise candidates and alliances.
“We are approaching the BTR elections with deep respect for the people and all regional parties. The BJP believes in inclusive growth and peace in the Bodoland region,” he said.
Political Significance of BTR
The Bodoland Territorial Region is politically significant, with unique ethnic and cultural dynamics. The region has witnessed complex alliances, especially since the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord in 2020, which brought relative stability.
Hazarika acknowledged the sensitivities in the region. “We understand the sentiments of BTR residents. Development, peace, and cultural respect are our key priorities,” he said.
Alliance Talks Underway
BJP sources revealed that talks are progressing with regional partners like the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and other influential local entities.
Hazarika hinted at possible alliances but stopped short of confirming details. “It’s too early to name partners, but we are confident of strong cooperation,” he said.
Political analysts believe alliances will play a crucial role in the polls, given the diverse electorate in BTR.
Focus on Development and Stability
The BJP plans to highlight development achievements in the region, such as infrastructure projects, new roads, bridges, and educational initiatives.
“We have invested heavily in BTR’s progress. We want to ensure that growth reaches every village,” Hazarika said.
Opposition Gears Up
Meanwhile, opposition parties are also preparing strategies. The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and other regional parties are likely to contest strongly, emphasising local identity and governance issues.
A senior BPF leader criticised the BJP’s handling of some regional issues, alleging delays in developmental schemes. “The people of BTR want real change, not just promises,” he said.
BTR Residents’ Concerns
In recent weeks, several groups in BTR have raised concerns over employment, cultural preservation, and resource allocation.
Residents like Ranjita Boro, a teacher in Kokrajhar, said, “We want peace and jobs for our youth. Political parties should focus on genuine development.”
Hazarika’s Call for Peaceful Elections
Hazarika urged all parties to ensure a peaceful electoral process. “Democracy thrives on dialogue and respect. Let’s work together to keep the elections free from violence,” he said.
He also appealed to voters to carefully assess parties’ performance before casting their votes.
BJP’s Confidence High
The BJP appears confident, given its recent successes in Assam’s Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Hazarika believes this momentum will carry into the BTR elections.
“We have earned the people’s trust across Assam. The same trust will help us win BTR with an absolute majority,” he said.
As the BJP BTR elections narrative gains momentum, all eyes are on how alliances will shape up and how regional dynamics will influence the outcome. With development, peace, and cultural identity at stake, the elections promise to be a pivotal moment for the Bodoland region.
The BJP, led by leaders like Pijush Hazarika, is set to campaign vigorously, hoping to secure its foothold in one of Assam’s most politically vibrant regions.
