Allegations of misuse of power, land brokerage, and commission-taking in contract works have reportedly deepened internal discord within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura. The growing unrest came to the fore late Friday night when miscreants vandalised a BJP party office in the Pratapgarh hanging bridge area under East Agartala.

The incident left one party worker injured and triggered tension in the locality. The attack occurred during heightened public movement linked to Kali Puja Dashami celebrations.

Miscreants Storm Party Office

According to local sources, the vandalism took place late at night while several BJP workers were present inside the party office. A group of miscreants allegedly forced their way into the premises and began damaging property.

They broke chairs and tables and tore posters displaying photographs of the Prime Minister and the Tripura Chief Minister. The attackers also smashed several motorcycles and scooters parked outside the office, causing further damage.

The sudden assault created panic among party workers present at the scene.

BJP Worker Injured in Attack

During the incident, BJP worker Tanmay Saha reportedly suffered a severe beating by the attackers. Others inside the office fled to save themselves as the situation spiralled out of control.

Later, locals rescued the injured worker and rushed him to GB Hospital, where doctors admitted him for medical treatment. His condition was reported to be stable.

Protest and Brief Road Blockade

Soon after the attack, angry BJP workers gathered in front of the vandalised party office. They raised slogans and demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the violence.

The protest briefly disrupted traffic as workers blocked the road in the Pratapgarh area. The situation remained tense for some time, prompting police intervention.

Police Rush In, Accused Escape

To control the situation, a large contingent of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel rushed to the spot. East Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath led the operation.

However, by the time police arrived, the miscreants had already fled the area.

Confirming the incident, OC Subrata Debnath said vandals damaged the BJP office and three to four two-wheelers. He added that police could not apprehend any accused immediately.

“An investigation is underway, and we will take necessary action based on our findings,” he stated.

Locals Allege Police Inaction

Local residents claimed that the identities of the attackers were well known. They alleged that individuals frequently seen near the Ward No. 31 municipal office were involved in the incident.

Residents pointed out that Kali Puja celebrations had taken place at the ward office on Thursday. They further claimed that the same group was present near the hanging bridge area during Dashami celebrations on Friday night.

According to locals, police could arrest the accused if they acted decisively.

Area Remains Tense, Security Tightened

The incident has created fear and unease in the Pratapgarh area. Authorities have deployed additional police personnel as a precautionary measure.

Police continue to patrol the area to prevent further escalation and to maintain law and order. The incident has once again raised concerns over political infighting and public safety in the state capital.
